Since winning our remix contest for The Last Atlant's "In Leaps and Bounds" in 2006, Dynamic Illusion has been in huge demand as a remixer for the top progressive labels. Between all of his remix work, he somehow found time to work on his own tracks, resulting in the First Light EP, his debut release of original material. The result is classic D.I.: emotional, atmospheric, lush progressive that is the antipode of the electronic, artificial sounds dominating dance today. Simply put, music with a soul.

"Rainbow Colors: I love the tight drums in the beginning, will blend great with other tracks in the mix. Once the chords and pads drop in with the bassline, I'd be surprised if this were not a Toes-released tune. The twinkling synths and fx bounce around the stereo field and imbue a tremendous atmosphere without overwhelming the deep bassline. An epic breakdown full of tight breaks leads up to an energetic finish without being so all-encompassing that it makes it a peak-time tune. A clean finish and little aftertaste will make it easy to mix with almost anything, like properly distilled vodka.
Afterglow Effect: A melodic intro with an echoed speech sample is a risky proposition given the potential for rendering progressively aged cheese, but DI pulls it off with aplomb. Rolling bass, swishy atmospherics, and some digitally analog konks and thuds give the track a nice late-night, early-morning groove. The breakdown is cinematic and big but keeps a beat so you won't lose the floor. It ends bigger and more cinematic with a shifting bassline that is so rare in dance music now, hinting at melodies and even -- shock, horror -- variation.
